The Haiti national football team's training center, located in Croix-des-Bouquets, was partially set on fire by armed gangs on February 1. The complex, officially called the FIFA Football Training Center, was targeted during clashes between police and members of the Viv Ansanm gang coalition. Several buildings were set on fire between Sunday evening and Monday morning. The Ministry of Youth, Sports and Civic Action condemned the act, saying it was « deeply disturbing » to see a site considered a national sports, cultural and civic heritage being attacked. The Haitian Football Federation also condemned the act and assured that the Haiti national football team will not be interrupted. The team has qualified for the 2026 World Cup and the spirit of unity born from this qualification must make them stronger in the face of adversity. The Croix-des-Bouquets training center has been a hub for sports training, civic education and community programs for decades. It was modernized in the early 2000s with the help of FIFA and has contributed to the formation of generations of players who have gone on to sign professional contracts abroad and represent Haiti on the international stage.
